One boon of working with editors and agents and publishing houses is that I have developed a great sense of how to edit for publication. Combined with my background as an English teacher and longtime writing group participant, I’ve developed a knack for critiquing manuscripts. You’ll also find my prices to be $100-200 less than average service charges in the current market.
Manuscript Line Edit and Editorial Letter:
This includes an analysis of line-by-line writing, a content critique that outlines overall strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript, and a full editorial letter. I will look at plot, characterization, pacing, and stylistic choices.
Rate: $.010 per word (50k words = $500)
Query Letter Analysis and Feedback:
I will help you fine-tune that one-page query letter before sending it off to agents and editors. I’ll give line edits, general feedback, and even read your first ten pages to get a sense of connection between the query and the manuscript. After you make adjustments, I will give a second round of feedback.
Note: Response time depends on the length of your manuscript, as well as the quality. I will give expected delivery times and dates based on my schedule, but these times will generally be very quick. I’d expect Full Manuscript Edits to take just over two weeks (this is subject to change).
I’m only taking on a handful of edits each month to supplement my own writing time and work. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested in a trial. I will read the first ten pages of your manuscript, provide responses, and we can both decide if an arrangement is appropriate at this stage in your manuscript’s life.
“Scott Reintgen critiqued my story in a record TWO days! And what a critique he gave. It was full of thoughtful questions, funny comments, and sharp analysis of both character and plot. He made me see my story with brand new eyes. I cannot recommend his services enough.” – from client and author, Bethany Hensel
